Many property owners innocently neglect their Bio Treatment Plant (BTP) and often do not even realise that it has stopped working! Which can cause all sorts of problems and great inconvenience.
Many are told ‘myths’ by builders who often install the BTP. Common incorrect facts told are things such as: – ‘they never need emptying’ or – they never need servicing or checking’.
This is all completely wrong and is negligence on behalf of the installer should they tell you information such as this!
Such poor advice can store up problems and expense for the future when you least expect it. At the same time, if it stops working not only is it inconvenient, but if it starts causing pollution you could find yourself with a hefty fine (up to £ 20,000.00) from the Environment Agency!
What should you do to try and avoid all this trouble?
- Your BTP should be checked and serviced at least once a year by a sewage consultant.
- At least once a month go and lift the lid and check that it is working yourself.
